PAUL ARNOLD FROM WOODFORD JAILED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IN LONDON

In a shocking case that has sent ripples through the community of Woodford and the wider London area, Paul Arnold, a police officer based in Enfield, has been sentenced to prison after admitting to possessing nearly 1,000 images of child pornography on his personal computer.

Arnold, aged 32 and residing on St Barnabas Road in Woodford Green, was found to have engaged in the disturbing activity of browsing the internet for photographs depicting young schoolgirls. Furthermore, he was involved in the exchange of these illicit images with other individuals via email, which compounded the severity of his offenses.

The case came to light when authorities from Scotland Yard’s Paedophile Unit received a tip-off following a police raid in the West Midlands. During this operation, investigators discovered Arnold’s email details stored on a computer belonging to a known sex offender. This discovery prompted further investigation into Arnold’s activities.

On March 24, Arnold was arrested, and subsequent searches of his home in Woodford uncovered a disturbing collection of images. A total of 957 photographs were retrieved from his computer, with the majority depicting girls aged between eight and twelve years old.

The court was informed that 848 of these images portrayed children in sexually explicit poses, while 77 images depicted even more heinous content involving children being coerced into sexual acts with adult men. Alarmingly, five of the images were classified at the highest level of seriousness, as they involved sadistic content.

Arnold, who had served in the police force for nine years and was once commended by the Metropolitan Police Commissioner for bravery after disarming a knife-wielding suspect, resigned from his position following the revelation of his activities.

Initially, Arnold claimed that his computer use was solely for searching for adult pornography. However, he later admitted that his interests extended to images of teenage girls, which he found more appealing.

During the court proceedings, his defense lawyer, Jonathan Davies, argued that Arnold’s career had been significantly damaged by his actions. Davies stated, “He has made a terrible mistake. He is full of remorse. He has lost the job he loved and it seems he was very good at it. He is embarrassed, devastated and will not do it again.”

Judge Andrew Goymer sentenced Arnold to six months in prison, emphasizing the gravity of his crimes. The judge remarked, “Every time one of these images is produced, a child somewhere is being abused or exploited, a child is having a normal childhood damaged.”

The judge also addressed the broader implications of such offenses, warning against any perception that police officers might receive leniency for breaking the law. He stressed the importance of the courts sending a clear message that the proliferation of such revolting material will be met with strict punishment.

Additionally, Arnold was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next seven years, underscoring the serious consequences of his actions and the ongoing threat posed by individuals involved in child exploitation.
