A man has received a prison sentence after being convicted of multiple charges including rape, arson, and assault.

Parminder Sund, aged 39 and formerly from Shifnal, was convicted on Friday, November 20, following a five-day trial held at Shrewsbury Crown Court.

He was sentenced to a total of eight years in prison: five years for the rape conviction; three additional years for arson, which will be served consecutively; and 20 weeks for assault, to be served at the same time as other sentences.

The jury at Shrewsbury Crown Court found Sund guilty on Monday of a series of incidents beginning in May 2019.

In that month, Sund raped a woman at her residence despite her protests.

The following month, he assaulted her by hitting her in the face, causing pain to her tooth, according to the Shropshire Star.

On July 31, he set fire to the woman’s house while she was away, and the blaze extended to a neighboring property where its residents were also absent.

Sund has been in custody since his arrest last summer and maintained his innocence regarding all three charges, despite the jury’s unanimous guilty verdict.
