MAN AVOIDS JAIL AFTER SOCIAL MEDIA INDECENT IMAGES AND THREATS IN ABERDEEN
A man named Ovidiu Pirva, aged 28, was found guilty in a court trial of serious offenses including sending indecent images and making threats to rape a woman. He also shared intimate photos of the woman through phone messages and posted them on social media platforms.
Additionally, Pirva sent these photos to a child and issued threats to rape their mother and sister in separate messages.
The offenses are alleged to have occurred on January 20, 2018, at an address in Aberdeen.
Despite denying the charges, he was convicted earlier this year of multiple offenses, including threatening and abusive behaviour, sending indecent images, and causing a child to view those images.
Pirva has been sentenced to be on the Sex Offenders Register for two years, handed a community payback order of two years supervision, 160 hours of unpaid work, and must participate in the Building Better Relationships programme.
His defense attorney highlighted that Pirva has been focused on establishing a landscape design business that could be adversely affected if he were imprisoned.
The court, presided over by Sheriff David Hall, decided not to jail Pirva, considering the offenses happened four years ago and he has no prior sexual offending history.
Sheriff Hall emphasized that while the behavior was unacceptable, the victim has forgiven Pirva, and since he has moved on with his life, the court decided to deal with him leniently and allow him to remain free.
Pirva was also issued a two-year non-harassment order and was placed on the sex offenders register for two years.
Sheriff Hall commented, "Your behaviour on the day in question towards the complainants was simply not acceptable, and the court views this type of offending very seriously.
However, since the offence occurred four years ago and he has no previous or subsequent offenses, he will not be imprisoned."
