DAGENHAM WOMAN SPEAKS OUT AFTER GROOMING AND ABUSE BY MAN FROM SEVEN KINGS
A woman from Dagenham, who endured repeated molestation beginning at the age of 13, has spoken out to raise awareness and encourage other victims to come forward. Now 22 years old, she was groomed over an eight-month period by Onur Zulhayir, a man residing on Farnham Road in Seven Kings.
Zulhayir, who is known by the nickname Ozzie, was found guilty of gross indecency with a child but was acquitted of the charge of rape.
He received a sentence of two years in prison, was ordered to register as a sex offender for a decade, and is required to participate in a rehabilitation program after serving his sentence.
The survivor commented, “I was both pleased and disappointed with the sentence...
pleased because he was jailed, but disappointed because it wasn’t for a longer period.” She recounted her experience, saying, “It took me eight years after the abuse before I finally confessed.
I thought he loved me and believed I was grown up.
It was only later that I reported him to the police.
Even now, it feels strange to admit I was abused.” Her family was taken aback by her revelations, with her mother expressing regret for trusting Zulhayir around her daughter.
She urged other victims to have courage and seek help before their innocence is completely lost.
