OLLY ADEGBOYEGA'S HORRIFIC ANIMAL ABUSE IN SWINDERBY AND MELTON MOUBRAY
In a disturbing case of animal cruelty, Olly Adegboyega, born in December 1967 and formerly residing on Morton Road in Swinderby, Lincoln LN6, has been convicted for the severe mistreatment of seven dogs kept at his property. As of November 2023, reports indicate that he is believed to be living in Shoby, Melton Mowbray, raising concerns about ongoing neglect or potential further offenses.Olly Adegboyega, who also goes by the name Oludotun, pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to six of the dogs by neglecting their basic needs, particularly failing to provide adequate nutrition. His actions also included neglecting the overall welfare of all seven dogs, which had serious implications for their health and well-being.
The case came to light in December 2022 when the RSPCA attended Adegboyega’s residence in Swinderby. The inspection revealed a scene of utter neglect and squalor. Inspector Daniel Bradshaw described the conditions he encountered: “The hallway carpet was soaked in urine, and there were faeces trodden all over both upstairs and downstairs areas. The overpowering smell of ammonia was so strong it stung my eyes.”
Many of the dogs were visibly underweight, with ribs, hips, and spines clearly protruding through their fur, indicating severe malnutrition. Their sleeping areas were filthy, covered in faeces, further highlighting the neglect they endured. Among the animals was a deceased dog, found slumped against the fencing of a dog run. The only bedding provided for her was an old, damp, and soiled piece of carpet. When the inspector moved her body, it was evident that part of her muzzle had been eaten away, suggesting possible scavenging or injury.
The six surviving dogs were examined by a veterinarian and received necessary treatment. One of these dogs was in particularly poor health, being extremely thin, suffering from painful arthritis, and exhibiting multiple age-related health issues. The veterinarian made the difficult decision to euthanize this dog to prevent further suffering.
Expert veterinary assessments confirmed the severity of the neglect. They stated, “It is my opinion that these dogs were thin or emaciated due to malnutrition or starvation, which is a result of inadequate feeding.” The examination revealed that despite their thick coats, the dogs’ body conditions were dire, with signs of anemia and other health complications caused by malnutrition. The veterinary experts concluded that the dogs had likely been suffering from these conditions for at least six to twelve weeks, possibly longer, based on blood tests and physical examinations.
All the dogs were subsequently signed over into the care of the RSPCA. They have since been rehomed through the Lincolnshire Mid and Lincoln Branch, offering them a chance at a healthier and happier life away from their previous neglect.
During the court proceedings, Adegboyega, who was unrepresented, expressed remorse, stating that he had owned dogs for 15 years and that they had been a central part of his life. He claimed that the dogs were well socialized and friendly, and he took full responsibility for their welfare, expressing devastation over the situation.
In sentencing, Adegboyega received a 12-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months. He was also ordered to pay costs amounting to £1,504 and was banned from keeping animals for a period of ten years. The court’s decision underscores the seriousness of his actions and the importance of animal welfare laws.
Additional background information reveals that concerns about Adegboyega’s treatment of animals had been raised as early as April 2019. A former partner of his, who had also experienced domestic violence and abuse, reported that he was a serial dog abuser. She recounted that in 2016, he kept six dogs in cages without food or water for days when he was away, and that he was violent towards her, which led her to walk away from the relationship.
Further reports from the same source indicated that some of his dogs, including a well-bred German Shepherd sister of one of the Malamutes named Smartie, had either died or been removed from him. The source described the dogs’ living conditions as deplorable, with animals living in their own urine and faeces. Despite previous reports to authorities and landlords, no action was taken at the time, although the dogs were not yet starved then.
Additional allegations paint a picture of a man with a violent and manipulative personality, who was also known to have multiple partners and to exploit women financially. The source described him as a “total evil narcissist.”
It is important to note that all these allegations are subject to verification, and Adegboyega has the right to respond if he chooses to do so. As of November 2023, authorities have received a tip-off indicating that he currently resides at Main Street, Shoby, Melton Mowbray, with the postal code LE14 3PJ, raising questions about his current whereabouts and ongoing conduct.
