ABERDEEN PENSIONER NORMA FRASER BUSTED FOR BREACHING ASBO WITH CCTV CAMERAS AND HOSTILE BEHAVIOR
Norma Fraser, a pensioner from Aberdeen, found herself in court after she was accused of violating a court-imposed anti-social behaviour order (ASBO) through her actions involving surveillance equipment and aggressive conduct. The ASBO, which was issued in 2019, explicitly prohibited Fraser from installing cameras that pointed towards her neighbours’ properties, as well as from threatening, verbally abusing, or intimidating anyone in her community. Despite these clear restrictions, Fraser installed three CCTV cameras on the exterior wall of her home, all aimed directly at her neighbours’ residences. When authorities responded to a report concerning the presence of these cameras, police officers arrived at Fraser’s residence to investigate. Upon arrival, they encountered Fraser displaying a hostile attitude. According to fiscal depute Claire Stewart, police observed Fraser shouting and swearing at the officers, while also insulting her neighbours during the encounter. The situation escalated as Fraser’s aggressive behavior was evident both in her words and demeanor.
Fraser, who is 67 years old, subsequently pleaded guilty to the charges of breaching her ASBO and behaving aggressively towards law enforcement officials. The court proceedings revealed that Fraser had maintained a clean record until she was 61, but her recent actions have marked a significant deviation from her previous conduct. She had already spent a night in custody following her arrest, underscoring the seriousness with which the court viewed her violations.
Sheriff Lesley Johnston ordered Fraser to be placed under supervision for a period of six months, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the court’s directives and maintaining appropriate behavior. Despite her conviction, Fraser remains in possession of the CCTV cameras, which the court has noted. The case highlights the importance of compliance with court orders designed to preserve community peace and safety, and it serves as a reminder that violations of such orders are taken very seriously by the judicial system.
