Longton Child Sexual Abuser
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Longton, Nigel Shaw, aged 62, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offences involving minors. The offences, which took place over a period of time, included the sexual abuse of two young girls, as well as the grooming and exploitation of additional victims.

Shaw’s crimes came to light after a detailed investigation that revealed his disturbing pattern of behavior. He was found guilty at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court of sexually abusing two schoolgirls by touching their private parts, acts that have left lasting scars on the victims. The court heard that Shaw, who resides on Wigmore Place in Longton, had also engaged in inappropriate and explicit messaging with two other girls, encouraging them to participate in sexual activities. Furthermore, he incited a fifth girl to engage in sexual acts, demonstrating a clear pattern of predatory behavior.

During the sentencing, Recorder Stephen Thomas addressed Shaw directly, stating, “You clearly sexually abused two girls. They have managed to make something of their lives but no doubt the effects of what you did to them will be with them for the rest of their lives. You have shown absolutely no remorse for what you have done.” The judge emphasized that Shaw’s actions reflected a disturbing consistency in his character, noting that his later communications with other girls—years after the initial assaults—were indicative of a continued sexualized interest.

Recorder Thomas pointed out that Shaw’s messages to the girls were for his own sexual gratification and that he was aware of the girls’ ages, including one who was under 13 at the time. Shaw had pleaded guilty to charges of inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity and possession of an indecent image of a child. However, he denied several other sexual offences, but after a trial, he was convicted of five counts of indecent assault, three counts of sexual activity with a child, and two charges of engaging in sexual communication with a minor.

Prosecutor Paul Spratt highlighted the profound impact Shaw’s actions have had on the victims, describing how his behavior involved grooming and targeting vulnerable girls. He detailed how Shaw sought explicit images from one girl, receiving facial images and sending images of himself, including a torso shot with suggestive words. The court was also told about telephone conversations in which Shaw anticipated engaging in oral and penetrative sex with the girl, illustrating the predatory nature of his conduct.

In addition to the prison sentence of 15 years and 10 months, Shaw was subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order that will remain in effect indefinitely. He was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from further harm. The case underscores the serious consequences of such heinous crimes and the importance of justice for the victims involved in this disturbing case from Longton and Stoke-on-Trent.
