MAN AVOIDS JAIL AFTER DOWNLOADING THOUSANDS OF CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
A man identified as Nigel Davies has been found in possession of over 2,300 indecent images and videos depicting children aged between six months and 15 years engaging in sexual activities. The collection, which included a total video duration of approximately two days and 20 hours, was stored both locally on his mobile device and in cloud storage, with some content hosted within social networking apps.
The material was described by the prosecutor as including 'sadistic' and 'most serious' Category A content, with 234 images and 544 videos falling into this highest category.
Davies was caught after police responded to his home in Drumlithie, where he admitted spontaneously during questioning that the images were on his phone.
He acknowledged the offence of taking possession of indecent images of children between October 1, 2018, and December 21, 2020.
During court proceedings at Aberdeen Sheriff Court, the defense argued that Davies had accepted responsibility, expressed remorse, and social workers assessed him as being at low risk of reoffending.
His legal counsel emphasized that he lives with his partner, has no outstanding cases, and had no intention of reoffending.
Sheriff William Summers described the behavior as 'despicable' and emphasized that the crimes were not victimless, stating that each child in the images is a victim of abuse, and viewing these images perpetuates the harm.
Despite the seriousness, the judge acknowledged the relatively small number of images recovered without sophisticated storage or indexing.
Davies received an 18-month community payback order, including 180 hours of unpaid work, and was ordered to register on the Sex Offender’s Register for 18 months.
