BRADFORD MAN CONVICTED OF RAPE AND CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
A former pub manager has been warned he faces a long prison sentence after he was found guilty of raping a teenage schoolgirl. The court heard that Bairstow, 48, of Park Hill Drive, Allerton, was manager of the Station Hotel at Harecroft, near Wilsden, at the time of the attack.
He admitted indecently touching the teenager but denied raping her.
The mother of the 17-year-old girl, who was only two weeks past her 16th birthday when the rape happened, said: "He has shown no remorse and made my daughter give evidence twice, which was hell for her.
It could have been over a long time ago.
Instead he put her through two trials.
She got through them, but not without a lot of upset." Bairstow was convicted after a second trial at Bradford Crown Court, following a deadlocked first trial in July last year.
The court also revealed that Bairstow will be sentenced for possession of a four-hour video showing indecent images of children, rated as category four for seriousness.
Judge Roger Scott indicated he would need to watch the worst of these images prior to sentencing and has ordered a pre-sentence report to assess the risk for the future.
The judge told Bairstow: "The only sentence the court will impose upon you is a long one of custody.
The time you will have to register under the Sex Offenders legislation will be determined by the length of the sentence but I anticipate it will be a lifetime registration." Bairstow was remanded in custody to await sentencing next month.
The mother expressed her relief that justice was served and emphasized her determination to prevent Bairstow from hurting others again.
