NICHOLAS AXON FROM CHARING SENTENCED FOR ONLINE GROOMING OF 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN KENT
In August 2014, a disturbing case emerged involving Nicholas Axon, a convicted sex offender from Kent, who engaged in a sinister online grooming scheme targeting a young girl. Axon, residing on Canterbury Road in Charing near Ashford, used social media platforms to pose as a teenage boy, deceiving a 14-year-old girl from the West Midlands into believing he was a peer.According to Kent Police, Axon falsely claimed to be 17 years old during their online interactions. The two exchanged mobile phone numbers, which facilitated further communication. Over the course of their conversations, Axon encouraged the girl to send him indecent images of herself, exploiting her trust and naivety.
The situation took a serious turn when the girl’s father, while transferring data from his daughter’s phone, accidentally discovered an audio message from Axon. Alarmed by the content, he promptly reported the incident to the police. This discovery led to Axon’s arrest and subsequent investigation.
Authorities uncovered that Axon was not a stranger to the criminal justice system. He had previously served an 18-month sentence in 2010 for distributing and creating indecent images of children. During his arrest, police found that Axon had breached a sexual offences prevention order that was previously imposed on him.
In a candid moment during his arrest, Axon admitted to officers, “I didn’t want to go inside again. I’ll go inside for this, even though I didn’t know their age.” His admission underscored the seriousness of his actions and his awareness of the legal restrictions placed upon him.
At Canterbury Crown Court, Axon pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including breaching a sexual offences prevention order, possessing indecent images of children, and inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity. The court sentenced him to four years and four months in prison, reflecting the gravity of his offenses.
Detective Sergeant David Shipley, a member of the Kent Police child exploitation investigation team, emphasized the importance of online safety. He urged parents to have open conversations with their children about the risks associated with internet use and the importance of cautious online interactions. Sergeant Shipley expressed satisfaction that the legal system had successfully returned Axon to prison, especially after he had violated an existing court order and preyed on a vulnerable 14-year-old girl who believed she was communicating with a peer.
