ALLTAMI MAN JAILED FOR STRANGLING WOMAN IN BOXING DAY ATTACK
Niall Lewis, a resident of Brannan Road in Alltami, has been sentenced to prison following a violent assault on his former girlfriend on Boxing Day.The court was told that Lewis, 26 years old, appeared remotely from HMP Berwyn at Mold Crown Court, where he was convicted of causing actual bodily harm through assault.
He had earlier confessed to a charge of intentional strangulation, although a jury could not reach a verdict on that particular offence.
Prosecutor Thomas McLoughlin explained that both charges involved Phoebe Allen, Lewis’s ex-partner with whom he had a tumultuous on-off relationship for nearly seven years.
After they separated in 2021, they temporarily rekindled their relationship, but Ms.
Allen wanted to end things during the Christmas period.
During this time, Lewis attempted to contact her repeatedly—calling 70 times and leaving abusive messages.
She eventually agreed to meet him, citing concerns about his mental health; however, when he arrived, he was intoxicated and aggressive.
The assault occurred when Lewis cornered Ms.
Allen in her kitchen, trapping her between a door and its frame, then pushing her onto the floor.
He then shouted loudly and gripped her neck so tightly she struggled to breathe and feared she might die.
In her desperation, Ms.
Allen thought about jumping from an upstairs window but managed to break free and fled to a neighbor’s house shouting for assistance.
Lewis followed and appeared unaffected by her distress, telling her to return inside.
During the police interview, Lewis denied attacking her, claiming she had experienced a psychotic episode and blamed her for the incident.
It was also revealed that Lewis has a prior conviction for assault against Ms.
Allen.
In her victim impact statement, Ms.
Allen described feeling profoundly scared and deprived of her independence because of Lewis’s actions.
The court recognized the severity of the offences, especially considering the emotional vulnerability of the victim and their long, complicated history since their days in sixth form.
Lewis received a prison sentence of 27 months to commence immediately, along with a five-year restraining order to safeguard Ms.
Allen.
Officer Ann Parry praised Ms.
Allen’s bravery and highlighted police efforts to address violence against women and girls.
