PAEDOPHILE JAILED AFTER BEING CONVICTED OF CHILD SEX OFFENCES
A man convicted of child sexual abuse has received a prison sentence after his victim courageously came forward to report the abuse.
Neil Thompson, aged 59, committed the offences many years ago when the girl was a child.
He threatened her that she would not be believed if she disclosed what had happened.
The victim, showing bravery, reported the matter to Northumbria Police, prompting their Safeguarding Department to conduct a thorough investigation into Thompson's actions.
He faced multiple charges and entered a plea of not guilty.
His trial at Newcastle Crown Court started in April, during which he was found guilty on four counts of indecent assault and five counts of gross indecency.
Following his conviction, Thompson was remanded in custody.
On Tuesday, October 15, he appeared again before the court and was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison.
In addition to his incarceration, Thompson, of Pleasant View, Medomsley, County Durham, was ordered to comply with a sexual harm prevention order and will be on the Sex Offenders’ Register permanently.
