NEIL MAUGHAN SENTENCED IN CUMREW FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES NEAR CARLISLE

In a case that has shocked the local community near Carlisle, Neil Maughan, a 54-year-old resident of Cumrew, was formally sentenced after a disturbing discovery of child abuse images on his personal computer. The police, acting on a tip or routine investigation, seized Maughan’s computer equipment from his residence in Cumrew in May of the previous year, uncovering a disturbing collection of over 100 illegal images and videos.

Among the illicit content found on Maughan’s devices, some were classified as Category A, indicating the most severe level of illegal material involving child exploitation. The discovery prompted a thorough investigation, leading to Maughan’s arrest and subsequent charges.

At Carlisle Crown Court, Maughan pleaded guilty to nine separate charges, which included six counts of creating indecent photographs of a child and three counts of possessing extreme pornographic material.
