BARNSTAPLE MAN JAILED FOR HORRIFIC DOUBLE MURDER
Neil Langmead, aged 41 and from Barnstaple, was found guilty of several heinous acts, including the murder of his estranged wife Debbie Langmead and her friend Donna St John in 2010.The two women, both in their 30s and mothers of two children each, were discovered stabbed to death inside a residence that was later engulfed in flames.
Court evidence showed that Debbie Langmead had been sexually assaulted and post-mortem mutilated, while Langmead denied any involvement, claiming he had acted in self-defense during a dispute.
The presiding judge described his conduct as 'evil and sadistic,' and the senior investigating officer labeled his crimes as 'heartbreaking' and destructive to many lives.
Langmead received a life sentence with a minimum term of 30 years.
The court rejected his self-defense claim and pointed to his longstanding pattern of controlling and abusive behavior towards his wife, which included harassment prior to the murders.
