Feckenham Child Sexual Abuser
In a disturbing case that unfolded at Worcester Crown Court, Neil Brown, a 53-year-old former NHS manager residing in Feckenham, was found guilty of engaging in a gross sexual act in front of a 10-year-old boy at Droitwich Leisure Centre on December 16, 2017. The incident, which took place in the swimming pool shower area, shocked the community and prompted a detailed trial that revealed troubling evidence of premeditated misconduct.

Brown’s behavior was observed by the young victim, who later testified that Brown looked at him, smiled, and raised his eyebrows as he performed the inappropriate act. The boy, now 12, was compelled to appear in court due to Brown’s plea, which necessitated him answering questions about his ordeal in front of a jury. During his testimony, the boy described the act as akin to Brown 'shaking a bottle,' a vivid analogy that underscored the grotesque nature of the incident. Brown, however, claimed that he could not have committed the act because he was suffering from erectile dysfunction following a mental breakdown on September 14, 2017.

The jury deliberated for over three hours before the judge provided a majority direction, encouraging them to reach a unanimous verdict. If they could not, a majority of at least 10 jurors would suffice. After four hours and nineteen minutes of careful consideration, the jury convicted Brown on a majority of 11 to one of committing the sexual act on Alcester Road, Feckenham.

Prosecutor Ravi Sidhu emphasized the predatory nature of Brown’s actions, stating to the jury, “In a nutshell, this is about child sex abuse.” Evidence presented during the trial painted a disturbing picture of Brown’s intentions. It was revealed that Brown had repeatedly intruded upon the boy’s space in the pool before following him into the showers just two minutes after the boy left the water. Brown then chose to shower next to him and proceeded to pull down his trunks, engaging in the act while smiling and panting as if he had just completed a marathon, according to the boy’s account.

Further evidence included police seizure of an iPad and a Samsung phone from Brown’s residence. On December 7, nine days prior to the incident, Brown had exchanged messages with another gay man in which he discussed performing a sex act on himself in a swimming pool changing room. Police also uncovered a handwritten note stating ‘me and 10-year-old friend,’ alongside internet searches for ‘what boys do alone,’ which Brown claimed was a reference to ‘twinks,’ men aged 18 to 25, rather than children.

Additionally, police found that Brown had sent explicit photos of himself in a state of arousal in November 2017 to another man, despite his claims of erectile dysfunction. These findings painted a clear picture of a pattern of concerning behavior.

Judge Nicolas Cartwright, presiding over the case, chose not to sentence Brown immediately, citing the need for a pre-sentence report from the probation service. He advised Brown to be honest with the probation officers, suggesting that frankness would benefit his case and the quality of the report. The judge indicated that Brown had likely committed similar acts before and emphasized the importance of transparency.

As a result, Brown was sentenced to 27 months in prison. He was also placed under a sexual harm prevention order, which prohibits him from entering any public or private swimming pools or sports centers where children might be present. Furthermore, he was ordered to pay £750 in compensation to the victim. The sentencing hearing was scheduled for February 18, 2020, and officers PC Pete Meredith and PC Dan Smart, who had been involved throughout the trial, attended the proceedings, underscoring the seriousness with which authorities approached this case.
