NEIL BORGEAT EX-ALMONDSBURY SCOUT LEADER AND FOOTBALL COACH SENTENCED IN HEMEL HEMPSTEAD AND LUTON
In a series of disturbing revelations, Neil Borgeat, a man with a long history of abusing children during his time as a Scout leader and youth football coach, has faced additional legal consequences for his past crimes. The latest sentencing occurred at Luton Crown Court on Monday, November 12, where Borgeat, aged 67 and formerly residing on Tockington Lane in Almondsbury, Somerset, received an extra year in prison after pleading guilty to three counts of indecent assault against young boys. These offences are part of a broader pattern of abuse spanning over a decade, specifically during the 1970s and 1980s. The crimes took place while Borgeat was actively involved in community youth activities, including his roles as a Scout leader and a coach for youth football teams in Hemel Hempstead. The victims, all boys aged between eight and 13 at the time, were under Borgeat’s care and supervision, which he exploited through his trusted positions within the community.
It is important to note that Borgeat is already serving a three-year prison sentence, which was handed down earlier this year on February 5. That sentence was the result of convictions related to sexual offences committed against three other victims between 1982 and 1990. The recent case, which involves three additional victims, came to light after they bravely came forward following media coverage of Borgeat’s earlier sentencing.
During the court proceedings, the victims demonstrated remarkable courage in sharing their experiences, which led to Borgeat’s further incarceration. The court sentenced him to 12 months for each of the three indecent assault charges. Since these sentences are to run concurrently, Borgeat’s total prison time has been extended by an additional year, bringing his overall incarceration period to four years.
Further back in time, in February 2018, Borgeat had already admitted to abusing boys in Hertfordshire, specifically in Hemel Hempstead. At that time, he was 66 years old and described by police as a “manipulative paedophile” who had also gained the trust of the victims’ parents. Borgeat pleaded guilty to charges of indecent assault and gross indecency at St Albans Crown Court, acknowledging offences committed between 1982 and 1990 while leading the 4th Boxmoor Scout Group and managing youth teams at Emerald Vale football club.
The victims in that case ranged in age from seven to 16, and the crimes were reported to Hertfordshire Police’s Joint Child Protection and Investigation Unit. Borgeat was subsequently arrested at his home in Almondsbury, near Bristol, and is now required to remain on the sex offenders’ register for life, reflecting the severity and ongoing nature of his criminal conduct.
