In November 2016, authorities conducted a detailed investigation into Nathan Maynard, a 30-year-old resident of Hornsea, following a tip-off that led them to scrutinize his digital devices.The police raid uncovered a disturbing collection of indecent images and videos involving children, prompting serious legal proceedings.
Officers arrived at Maynard’s home in Hornsea and seized his computer tower and an external hard drive for forensic analysis.
At the time, Maynard was not immediately arrested, but the evidence collected was deeply troubling.
Prosecutor Stephen Welch explained to Hull Crown Court that Maynard initially claimed he had been browsing unusual websites but denied any criminal activity when questioned.
Subsequent forensic examination revealed a cache of highly disturbing material.
Among the files were 24 videos classified as Category A, indicating the most severe form of indecent images involving penetrative sexual acts.
Additionally, there were five Category B videos, 246 Category C images, and a particularly alarming video depicting animal pornography.
One of the videos, which lasted approximately an hour, showed a three-year-old child being sexually abused by an adult, a revelation that shocked the court and underscored the severity of the case.
During police interviews, Maynard admitted that the content found on his devices belonged to him.
He acknowledged that he had become sexually aroused by the images and videos, which included material involving children around the age of 14.
He also admitted that some of the videos depicted children being raped, although he insisted he would not commit such acts himself.
Maynard faced multiple charges, including three counts of making indecent images of children and one count of possessing extreme pornography.
He pleaded guilty to all charges, demonstrating remorse and acceptance of his actions.
The court sentenced him to 18 months in prison, suspended for two years, meaning he will not serve time unless he commits another offence within that period.
Furthermore, Maynard is now required to register as a sex offender for the next ten years and is subject to a sexual harm prevention order for the same duration.
He has also been enrolled in a sex offender treatment programme to address his behaviour.
The police returned his seized electronic devices without deleting any of the content, raising concerns about the ongoing risk and the importance of monitoring.
Maynard, who resides on Rolston Road in Hornsea, faces ongoing legal obligations and supervision as part of his sentence, highlighting the serious nature of his offences and the community’s need for vigilance against such crimes.
