NATHAN ACKERLEY SENTENCED TO TEN YEARS FOR RAPE IN HASTINGS
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Hastings, a 28-year-old man named Nathan Ackerley has been sentenced to a decade behind bars after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offenses.The incident took place in October 2021, when Ackerley, residing on School Road in Hastings, committed a heinous act against a vulnerable woman.
According to reports, Ackerley lured the woman back to his residence in Hastings and proceeded to assault her while she was asleep.
The attack was particularly brutal, as he had cut her clothing during the assault.
Fortunately, the victim regained consciousness during the assault, which allowed her to escape from her attacker.
Demonstrating remarkable courage and resilience, she immediately made her way to a police station to report the crime, seeking justice and protection.
Law enforcement officers responded swiftly to her report.
As part of their investigation, specialist officers provided her with support and assistance throughout the process.
Ackerley's whereabouts were quickly identified, leading to his arrest on suspicion of rape.
During a search of his phone, authorities uncovered disturbing evidence, including photographs he had taken of the woman while she was asleep, further implicating him in the crime.
Following the investigation, Ackerley was formally charged with multiple offenses, including rape, sexual assault by touching, sexual assault by penetration, and voyeurism.
The case proceeded through the judicial system, culminating in a conviction on all counts on Friday, 19 July.
The court's decision was based on the substantial evidence presented, which confirmed his guilt beyond reasonable doubt.
On the subsequent Monday, 22 July, Ackerley was sentenced to ten years in prison.
The court also imposed a minimum term of two-thirds of the sentence before eligibility for parole.
Additionally, he was issued a restraining order prohibiting any contact with the victim and was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community and the victim from further harm.
