NATALIE CUMMINS FROM BOSCASTLE CAUGHT IN SHOCKING SEXUAL MESSAGES WITH TEENAGE GIRL IN CORNWALL
In a case that has sent ripples through the community of Boscastle and the wider Cornwall area, 45-year-old Natalie Cummins faced serious allegations related to her inappropriate conduct towards a teenage girl. The incident came to light after the victim’s friend discovered troubling messages on Snapchat and WhatsApp, which Cummins had sent over a period of months, revealing a disturbing pattern of sexual communication and inappropriate behavior. At Truro Crown Court, Cummins was found guilty of engaging in sexual communication with a minor, a serious offence under the Sexual Offences Act of 2017. The court heard that Cummins, a resident of Boscastle, had initially met the girl in 2017, during which she began to offer her support and advice as the teenager confided in her about personal issues, including feelings of rejection, anxiety, and self-harm. However, what started as seemingly supportive exchanges soon took a darker turn, with Cummins expressing sexual interest and sending explicit messages.
The messages, which were meticulously documented by the victim’s friend—who took 48 photographs of the conversations—revealed a pattern of sexual innuendo and explicit content. The defendant’s online alias was 'A Big Spoon,' and her messages frequently referenced cuddling, snuggling, and other intimate acts. One message from Cummins stated, “You know exactly where to touch me and for how long,” while another read, “I like doing lots of things with my tongue tbf.” The girl later told Cummins, “You should be in my bed,” to which Cummins responded, “You definitely wouldn’t be getting your assignment done if I was.”
Further disturbing was the defendant’s comment, “I’m just trying not to be a total paedo,” accompanied by a laughing emoji, which highlighted her awareness of the inappropriate nature of her actions. The messages also included references to sexual activities such as “ass stuff” and expressed a desire for a future sexual relationship, indicating Cummins’ unambiguous sexual attraction towards the teenager.
Police were alerted after the girl’s friend accessed her Snapchat account and found the incriminating messages. The friend’s diligent efforts led to the forwarding of photographic evidence to Devon and Cornwall Police, which played a crucial role in the case. During the trial, prosecutor Philip Lee emphasized that Cummins’ behavior was not merely casual banter but clearly aimed at encouraging a sexual relationship with the minor.
Judge Recorder Jane Rowley, who presided over the case, sentenced Cummins to a community order for 12 months, including 60 hours of unpaid work and 20 days of rehabilitation. She also imposed a five-year sexual harm prevention order and a two-year restraining order to prevent any contact with the victim. The judge acknowledged Cummins’ remorse and her efforts to show shame, but she also issued a stark warning, saying, “No more licking, Mrs. Cummins,” referencing her earlier denial of kissing the girl but admission to licking her face. The judge emphasized the bizarre nature of some of the behavior and urged Cummins to control her sexual innuendo and banter.
Throughout the proceedings, it was noted that Cummins had built a reputable life in Boscastle, moving there in 2015 and establishing a vibrant business. Despite her standing in the community, her actions towards the young girl were seen as a serious breach of trust and morality. The case underscores the importance of vigilance and safeguarding vulnerable minors from exploitation, especially in the digital age where such communications can be easily concealed but are increasingly being uncovered by law enforcement.
As the case concludes, Cummins is set to return to court for sentencing, with the court considering the full extent of her actions and the impact on the victim. The community of Boscastle remains shaken by the revelations, and authorities continue to stress the importance of protecting children from online predators and ensuring that offenders are held accountable for their misconduct.
