MORGAN GREEN FROM WALCOTT CAUGHT IN NORFOLK BY PAEDOPHILE HUNTERS OVER ONLINE SEXUAL CHAT
In June 2018, a serious incident unfolded involving Morgan Green, a 42-year-old man from Walcott in North Norfolk, which drew significant attention from local authorities and the community alike. Green became the subject of a self-styled paedophile hunter group after engaging in online conversations that suggested he was attempting to establish a sexual relationship with a minor.According to court proceedings, Green believed he was communicating with a 13-year-old girl. The individual he thought was a schoolgirl was, in fact, an adult member of a vigilant group dedicated to protecting children from online predators. This group had set up a fake profile, including a picture that appeared to be of an 18-year-old, to lure potential offenders.
Mark Roochove, the prosecutor, detailed that during the online exchanges, Green was explicitly told that the girl was still in school and only 13 years old. The girl even asked Green for help with her homework, which he responded to. Despite this, Green continued to engage in sexually explicit conversations and went as far as sending a nude image of himself to the girl, believing her to be a minor.
Following the conversations, the group tracked Green to his residence in Walcott. They sent a member of their team to his home, but he was not there at the time. His wife was present, and the information was subsequently relayed to the police. Green, who was employed in a role that involved working with vulnerable adults, was arrested as a result of the investigation.
During the court hearing, Green appeared via video link from Norwich Prison and pleaded guilty. He admitted that the profile picture used in the online chat appeared to be of someone over 18, but he acknowledged that he engaged in sexual conversations with a girl he believed to be 13. The incidents took place between October 21 and November 19 of the previous year.
Judge Andrew Shaw addressed Green directly, highlighting the disturbing nature of the case. He explained that Green had initiated contact with a girl he thought was 13, but in reality, the profile was a fictitious creation by the paedophile hunter group. The judge questioned what was going through Green’s mind during these interactions, emphasizing the concern over his intentions.
While the judge recognized that Green was seeking sexual gratification through these conversations, he also stressed that the sentence should focus on rehabilitation rather than solely punishment. Green had already spent several months on remand, which was taken into account during sentencing.
Instead of immediate custody, Judge Shaw imposed a 12-month community order with a requirement for rehabilitation. Green was also placed on the sex offenders register for five years and was subject to a sexual harm prevention order, reflecting the seriousness of his actions and the need for ongoing monitoring.
