MOHSAN ANWAR CAUGHT WITH CHILD AND ANIMAL ABUSE IMAGES IN LLANGEFAN NEAR MENAI BRIDGE

In July 2020, a disturbing case emerged involving Dr. Mohsan Anwar, a junior doctor residing in Mill Lodge, Llandegfan, near Menai Bridge. The medical professional was found to be in possession of highly inappropriate and illegal content on his mobile phone, including indecent images of a child and material involving bestiality.

Following an investigation, Anwar was brought before the magistrates at Caernarfon, where he faced serious charges related to the possession of such illicit material. The court was informed that police had initially engaged with Anwar during an inquiry into the distribution of indecent images. During this interaction, Anwar voluntarily handed over his mobile device for examination.

High-tech forensic analysis of the phone revealed the presence of four indecent videos. Among these was a disturbing clip featuring a nine-year-old boy, alongside other videos depicting acts of bestiality. The police investigation uncovered that Anwar was involved in online chats discussing the videos, and he had expressed concern about whether viewing such content was appropriate, even questioning its suitability for viewing on a hospital ward.

During a subsequent interview, Anwar claimed that he was part of a WhatsApp group where such material was shared but insisted he did not always view the messages and maintained that he would have deleted any indecent content from his device. Despite his assertions, the evidence suggested active participation in conversations about the videos, which contributed to the court's decision.

In light of the evidence, Anwar admitted to the offences during a hearing held the previous month. The court then adjourned sentencing to allow for the preparation of reports.

Magistrates ultimately handed down a sentence that, while not involving immediate imprisonment, was nonetheless severe. Anwar was sentenced to a 12-month Community Order, requiring him to complete 300 hours of unpaid work. Additionally, he was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for five years and pay costs amounting to £170. The court also ordered that his mobile phone be confiscated and destroyed, emphasizing the seriousness of the offences.

The bench chairman, Alastair Langdon, acknowledged the gravity of the case, noting that the typical starting point for such offences would be one year in custody. However, he highlighted that the court had taken into account mitigating factors presented on Anwar’s behalf, which influenced the final decision. He warned Anwar that he was fortunate to avoid immediate imprisonment, underscoring the severity of possessing such illegal material.
