CHEF WHO RAPED VULNERABLE WOMAN AFTER NIGHT OUT JAILED
A chef has received a seven-year prison sentence after assaulting and raping a woman he accompanied to a cocktail bar for drinks.Mohammed Tariq assaulted the woman at her home in Bridge of Allan, Stirlingshire, following their night out.
At the High Court in Edinburgh, the judge informed Tariq, 27, that “This was a sustained attack on a vulnerable young woman in her own home.” Lord Harrower noted he had read a victim impact statement detailing the “devastating and lasting impact” of the crime on the woman.
The evening began with Tariq taking her to a cocktail bar where they both drank, and later, cannabis was also consumed.
The combination of alcohol and cannabis caused her to feel unwell, and security footage showed her leaning on Tariq for support at one point.
While she was intoxicated and unable to give consent, Tariq assaulted her at her residence and committed rape.
He eventually left after being asked to do so multiple times.
Tariq, from Callander, Perthshire, denied several charges during a prior trial at Dundee’s High Court but was convicted of three counts of rape committed on May 1, 2023.
He was acquitted of another alleged sexual assault and a charge of supplying cannabis to the woman.
Defence lawyer Drew McKenzie KC maintained that Tariq still maintains his innocence regarding the sex crimes.
He highlighted Tariq’s “difficult upbringing” but noted he trained as a chef and worked in establishments awarded Michelin-star and AA Rosette ratings.
The lawyer requested that the judge consider his client’s clean criminal record and good employment history when sentencing.
Tariq was ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely, and a non-harassment order was issued to prevent him from contacting or attempting to contact the victim.
