Chesham Rapist
In a case that has shocked the local community, Mohammed Khan, a resident of Chesham, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for a brutal kidnapping and sexual assault that took place in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire. The incident occurred on the night of August 28 last year, when Khan, a 37-year-old food delivery driver, targeted a 17-year-old girl in a seemingly random act of violence.

According to court proceedings, the young woman had been socializing with friends earlier that evening and was sitting on the pavement outside a Primark store, waiting for her stepfather to pick her up. She was in a vulnerable state, having been drinking, and was sitting on the street when Khan spotted her. The prosecutor, Peter Shaw, detailed how Khan exited his vehicle, approached her, and forcibly bundled her into the passenger seat of his car. From that moment, the defendant drove her away from the scene, during which he subjected her to a series of sexual assaults that lasted approximately an hour.

During the drive, Khan engaged in sexual acts with the girl, ignoring her pleas for him to stop. The court heard that he stopped the vehicle at one point and raped her again, further traumatizing her. Throughout this ordeal, the girl’s mother was anxiously trying to contact her via phone, worried about her whereabouts. Meanwhile, Khan continued his assault, driving her back to Hemel Hempstead and telling her she could leave the car. The girl managed to exit the vehicle and made her way back to the town center, where she was eventually picked up by her family.

Once safe, she confided in her family about the horrifying incident, prompting them to contact the police. Her stepfather spent nearly an hour searching for her before finally locating her around 11 pm outside a Bathroom store in Hemel Hempstead. The police used CCTV footage to trace the vehicle involved to Khan’s residence in Chesham. Subsequently, Khan was summoned to the police station for questioning.

During interrogation, Khan denied any sexual contact with the girl, claiming he had been acting as a Good Samaritan. However, forensic evidence told a different story—DNA matching Khan’s was found inside her jogging pants. The court also noted that Khan’s actions were premeditated and opportunistic, as he had a history of approaching young girls. His criminal record includes 21 previous convictions for 29 offences, none of which were sexual in nature. Notably, on March 4, 2021, Khan received a Child Abduction Warning after contacting a 13-year-old girl on Snapchat, where he posed as a 19-year-old and touched her thigh when they met.

Further incidents include an approach to a 15-year-old girl on her way to school in July 2014, and multiple attempts to contact other young girls, often while in his car, using false names and lying about his age. Prosecutor Shaw emphasized that Khan’s pattern of behavior indicates he is an opportunistic sex offender who targets vulnerable females.

In her victim impact statement, the teenage girl expressed her ongoing trauma, stating that she no longer feels safe when she is outside and now spends more time at home due to her anxiety. The judge, Lynn Tayton QC, described her as a vulnerable young woman who was intoxicated and semi-conscious during the attack, suffering severe psychological harm. She also highlighted that Khan had specifically targeted her, and her case is part of a broader pattern of predatory behavior.

Judge Tayton sentenced Khan to 15 years in prison for kidnapping with intent to commit a sexual offence, rape, oral rape, and sexual assault by penetration. Additionally, Khan will serve an eight-year extension on his license upon release. He is also required to register as a sex offender and comply with an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to prevent further offenses.
