NEIGHBOUR ARMED WITH A KNIFE: PENSIONER TOO AFRAID TO RETURN HOME
Khan, of Oxford House in Swan Lane, pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article in public.
A pensioner was too terrified to return to her own home – after her neighbour turned up in the middle of the night armed with a knife.
The 72-year-old woman was woken at 1am by Mohammed Khan knocking on her bedroom window.
Khan urged her to open the door, pleading: “Let me in, I’m bleeding.” Believing he was hurt, she answered her door.
The 48-year-old then walked into her home carrying a kitchen knife, making stabbing motions.
He claimed he was going to kill himself and demanded she call an ambulance; when she said she would call police, he refused her requests to put the knife down.
The victim was fearful that Khan might return and cause harm to her, and she has since put herself on a re-housing waiting list with Kirklees Council.
The court heard that Khan suffered from mental health issues and had been drinking.
Judge Khalil sentenced him to 16 weeks in custody, suspended for a year, and imposed a restraining order banning him from contacting the victim or attending her home.
The court also ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the knife, and Khan was asked to pay £85 in costs and a £115 victim surcharge.
