Mohammed Ibrar Aslam, a 47-year-old resident of Hartopp Road in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, has been linked to a heinous sexual assault that took place in Halifax over two decades ago. The case, which remained unsolved for many years, resurfaced due to significant advancements in forensic science and DNA analysis, leading to a renewed investigation by authorities.

According to court records, the incident occurred in March 2001, when a woman had been out enjoying a night in Halifax. She was abducted by vehicle and taken to a residence in Bradford, where the assault took place. During the attack, Aslam subjected her to a brutal rape and forced her to perform a sexual act. The victim later described her ordeal as lying face-down on a bed, feeling completely unaware of her surroundings, and likening herself to 'a piece of meat being used.' Her account underscores the severity and brutality of the crime.

Despite the crime remaining undetected for nearly 18 years, the case was reopened in 2018 after forensic evidence was re-examined using modern DNA techniques. This new investigation was part of a broader effort to review cold cases with the aid of technological advancements and increased international police cooperation. The breakthrough came when West Yorkshire Police identified a potential suspect, leading to a significant development in the case.

On January 8 of this year, authorities located Aslam at Birmingham International Airport as he was preparing to leave the UK for Pakistan via Dubai on an Emirates flight. Prosecutor Stephen Wood emphasized the urgency of the arrest, stating,
