MOHAMED AMIRA OF UFFCULME SENTENCED FOR CRUELTY TO DOG IN CULLOMPTON

Mohamed Amira, born around 1992 and formerly residing in Coldharbour, Uffculme, Cullompton EX15 3EE, has been convicted of a severe act of animal cruelty that resulted in the death of a small dog. Currently of no fixed address, Amira’s actions have drawn significant attention from animal welfare authorities and the local community alike.

According to reports, Amira, who is known locally as 'Mo Jo' and has a history of personal connections to the UK through marriage, was involved in a tragic incident involving his pet dog, William, a Pomeranian cross chihuahua. The incident occurred in December 2023 at a family home in the village of Uffculme. Amira reportedly battered William with a canister, inflicting injuries so severe that the dog was left with a broken spine and brain damage. The injuries were catastrophic enough that the dog had to be euthanized by a veterinarian, who promptly contacted the RSPCA to investigate the case.

Veterinary reports detail the extent of William’s injuries. The vet, who examined the dog on December 28, 2023, described William as being brought in by a neighbor around 6:30 pm after being found collapsed at his home. Upon arrival, William was in a coma, exhibiting signs of a severe brain injury, with unresponsive pupils and absent spinal reflexes in all four limbs. Despite immediate medical intervention, William’s condition worsened rapidly, and he was euthanized within an hour, as he was deemed brain dead.

During police investigations, Amira initially provided inconsistent accounts of the incident. He later claimed that William had nipped him on the thumb, which resulted in his anger and subsequent violence. However, the prosecution, led by Susan Cavender, highlighted that the dog’s owner’s teenage daughter had returned home to find William unable to move, floppy, and barely conscious. It was noted that Amira had a small cut on his thumb but never explained how the injury occurred or what exactly transpired during the attack.

The family of William described him as a 'sweet, quirky boy' whose loss has left a profound void in their lives. The court heard that William’s death was the result of Amira’s 'moment of extreme anger,' during which he armed himself with a canister and struck the dog multiple times. The judge, Stephen Climie, emphasized that the act was deliberate and driven by a surge of rage, leading to the tragic death of the innocent animal.

Animal welfare authorities, including RSPCA Inspector Miranda Albinson, expressed their dismay over the case. Inspector Albinson stated, “Dogs feel pain just like we do and always deserve to be shown kindness and compassion. It is saddening to think that William lost his life as a result of injuries that had been caused to him.”

In court, Amira faced sentencing that included a 22-week custodial sentence, which was suspended for two years following an appeal. Additionally, he was ordered to complete 250 hours of unpaid work. The court also imposed a ban on him from owning or keeping animals for ten years, with the possibility of an appeal after five years, which would expire in February 2035.
