SEAFORD MAN CONVICTED OF CONTROLLING AND ABUSING WOMAN OVER YEARS
An abuser named Mitchell Maybank assaulted and controlled a woman over several years, from 2017 to 2020.His victim, a woman in her 30s, endured a repeated pattern of physical and psychological abuse, including violent assaults that caused her to lose consciousness.
In 2020, she also reported being raped by Maybank three times.
She took these incidents to the police in March 2021, leading to Maybank's arrest and charge with three counts of rape, coercive and controlling behaviour, and causing actual bodily harm.
Despite denying all charges, Maybank was convicted at Lewes Crown Court on Tuesday, March 11, of coercive and controlling behaviour and causing actual bodily harm.
However, he was found not guilty of the three counts of rape.
He is scheduled for sentencing on April 25.
The court heard from Detective Constable Adam Rose that "Violent and controlling behaviour ruins lives and we will do all we can to protect victims and hold offenders to account." The victim demonstrated remarkable bravery in supporting the case amidst Maybank's denials.
Maybank, who is 33 years old and from Seaford, has no fixed address and awaits sentencing.
