MICK DEFRESIES FROM BARNHAM JAILED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE IN SUSSEX
In a case that has shocked the local community of Barnham and the wider Sussex area, former British Transport Police (BTP) sergeant Mick Defries has been sentenced to two years in prison for serious sexual offenses involving a young girl.The offences, which are now part of a lengthy legal process, date back several years and have brought to light disturbing allegations against a man who once served as a police officer.
Defries, aged 58 and a resident of Barnham near Bognor Regis, admitted to two counts of sexual touching during a previous hearing held at Lewes Crown Court.
The court was informed that these historic offences involved a girl who was under the age of 16 at the time of the incidents.
The details of the case reveal a troubling pattern of misconduct that has now culminated in criminal conviction and imprisonment.
Following his arrest, the British Transport Police took immediate action by suspending Defries from his duties.

As part of his sentencing, the court ordered Defries to adhere to a sex offence prevention order for a period of 12 years.

These events follow a previous incident in December 2013, when Mick Defries, also of Barnham, pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl.
During a preliminary hearing at Lewes Crown Court, Defries admitted to two historical charges of sexual touching involving a minor under 13.
He was remanded in custody and was scheduled for sentencing on January 10.
The British Transport Police confirmed that Defries, who had served with the force for ten years, was suspended from duty following his arrest by Sussex Police.
The force reiterated their stance that such conduct is unacceptable and that disciplinary measures were being pursued.
