Troon Stalker
Michael Shanks, a 34-year-old man residing on Union Street in Troon, has been formally sentenced to a period of imprisonment following his conviction for stalking his former partner. The case revealed a disturbing pattern of harassment that persisted over several months, causing significant distress and fear for the woman involved.

According to court records, Shanks engaged in relentless attempts to contact his ex-partner through numerous telephone calls and text messages. Despite her repeated pleas for him to cease these communications, he continued his efforts unabated. The court heard that his harassment extended beyond mere messages; he made multiple visits to her residence, which heightened her sense of alarm and vulnerability.

On one particularly distressing occasion, dated May 6, 2016, Shanks demanded entry into her home. He was observed shouting through her letterbox, an act that left her feeling deeply threatened and frightened. The court was informed that their relationship had lasted approximately six to seven months, but it ended due to his controlling and obsessive behavior. The woman’s decision to break off the relationship did not deter Shanks, who persisted in his harassment even after his arrest.

It was also revealed that between December 1, 2015, and May 7, 2016, he sent messages through friends and family members, further demonstrating his refusal to respect her boundaries. The court heard that there was an active application for a non-harassment order against him, underscoring the seriousness of his conduct.

Shanks pleaded guilty to charges of conduct that caused fear or alarm, which included repeated threatening behaviors and attempts to intimidate his former partner. His actions resulted in him being sentenced to 135 days in jail. Additionally, the court imposed a restraining order, prohibiting him from contacting her directly or indirectly for a period of three years, in an effort to protect her from further harassment and ensure her safety moving forward.
