MICHAEL QUINN FROM BURRADON SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES IN NORTH TYNESIDE AND AMERICA
In a disturbing case that highlights the dangers of online predators, Michael Quinn, a 35-year-old man from Burradon, North Tyneside, has been sentenced to four years and six months in prison for a series of heinous crimes involving minors. The investigation into Quinn’s activities revealed a pattern of predatory behavior that spanned across continents and involved multiple victims.Quinn, who posed as a 17-year-old boy on social media platforms, actively sought out young girls to exploit. His initial contact was made on February 4, when he began communicating with a profile he believed belonged to a 13-year-old schoolgirl. Over several days, he engaged in a series of manipulative exchanges, during which he sent her Snapchat selfies, indecent images, and videos. He repeatedly pressured her to perform sexual acts live on camera, attempting to coerce her into engaging in illegal and exploitative behavior.
The authorities became aware of Quinn’s activities when he was arrested on March 14. Unbeknownst to him, he was chatting with a police officer at the time. Following his arrest, law enforcement officials seized his electronic devices, which subsequently revealed a disturbing collection of illicit content. The investigation was led by the Paedophile Online Investigation Team (POLIT), who uncovered further evidence of Quinn’s predatory conduct.
Further investigations uncovered that Quinn’s online alias had also been used to deceive and blackmail a teenage girl in the United States. Evidence obtained from his devices showed that he had coerced her into sending indecent videos and had threatened to share this material with her father unless she continued to comply with his demands. The Victim Identification Team, working closely with American law enforcement agencies, managed to locate and identify the American victim, leading to a complex legal case that spanned two countries.
Following a thorough legal process, Quinn was formally charged with multiple offenses, including attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity, attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act, blackmail, and producing indecent images of a child. His guilty pleas and admissions in court confirmed the severity of his crimes.
On Friday, Quinn was sentenced to four years and six months in prison at North Tyneside Crown Court. His conviction underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat online child exploitation and protect vulnerable minors from predators operating across borders.
