Michael McKay, a 28-year-old man working as a roadworker, became the subject of a serious criminal case following a series of violent incidents against his partner in the town of Forfar during the summer months. The disturbing events began on June 17, when McKay was involved in a domestic assault that left his partner injured. During an argument, he bit her on the chest, causing visible harm and distress. Despite police being able to trace him and him being granted bail, McKay did not cease his aggressive behavior. Less than three weeks later, on July 6, he returned to the victim’s flat while intoxicated, refusing to leave despite her pleas. His behavior quickly escalated as he became increasingly aggressive, physically restraining her, squeezing her mouth shut, and dragging her from one room to another while shouting and losing control of his temper. The situation reached a dangerous climax when McKay, in a fit of rage, picked up a knife. He threatened his partner with the weapon, holding it against her throat and issuing a chilling threat to kill her. The assault continued with physical violence, as he struck her and hit her head, further terrorizing her. In an attempt to prevent her from seeking help, McKay took her phone. However, when he eventually fell asleep, the victim managed to use his phone to call emergency services, dialing 999. She hung up the call when she was disturbed, but the police were already alerted to the incident. The court was told that the victim was
