ACLE MAN JAILED AFTER PUNCHING AND KICKING PARTNER
A man has been jailed after his partner feared her life was at risk during a "violent and sustained" assault.Michael Lindsay, of Cavell Road, Acle, admitted a string of offences at Norwich Crown Court last Tuesday.
The 56-year-old had argued with his partner and pushed her to the floor before repeatedly punching her in the head and kicking her in the ribs and legs.
The attack on December 7 left the victim struggling to walk.
Lindsay left the scene on a bike but returned shortly after, still in a rage.
Upon returning, he then attacked his partner again, grabbing her by the neck, punching her again, and dragging her by her hair - pulling a clump from her head.
Police were called and he was arrested.
Lindsay was charged with two counts of assault, one of intentional strangulation, and one of resisting an officer.
He denied the offences at a hearing in January but changed his plea to guilty last week.
The victim stated: "We have endured this traumatic, frightening, nerve-wracking experience as a family and take pride in hoping that strength is not always about who can hit harder." Lindsay was sentenced to one year and three months for intentional strangulation and one year and five months for each of the assaults.
The sentences will run concurrently.
PC Carol-Ann Noble commented: "The assault against the woman was violent and sustained; she genuinely thought her life was at risk.
The courage she has shown in standing up to her abuser and supporting this investigation has ensured that he is rightly behind bars."
