HEMLINGTON MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL STRANGLING AND CONTROLLING ABUSE

A man who carried out a series of violent offences against a woman, including strangling her, has been sentenced to prison.

Michael John Aaron Hall appeared at Teesside Crown Court on a Friday and was sentenced to 48 months in prison for coercive and controlling behaviour, intentional strangulation, three counts of common assault, and one of actual bodily harm.

The 35-year-old, residing at Faygate Court, Hemlington, was also subjected to an indefinite restraining order.

During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Hall subjected his victim to extended physical, verbal, and emotional abuse.

His behavior involved monitoring her phone, restricting contact with friends and family, and behaving aggressively and controlling.

His violence escalated to include strangulation, holding her in a headlock, dragging her by her hair, punching her, and threatening to harm her horses.

The judge described Hall as having a 'deeply dysfunctional attitude towards women,' acting as if they were his property.

Detective Sergeant Holly Grosvenor expressed admiration for the victim's bravery in coming forward and emphasized police's stance against abusive behavior.
