WOODBRIDGE ABUSER MICHAEL HINES JAILED FOR FURTHER 10 YEARS
A woman has branded a serial child rapist who relentlessly sexually abused her for six years as a “monster” who made her life “a living hell”.Michael Hines appeared remotely before Ipswich Crown Court on Friday afternoon to be sentenced for 13 historical sexual offences.
Hines, 78, was jailed by the court in 2021, being handed a sentence of 14 years for the sexual abuse of three young girls, who were all aged under 10 at the time.
A further victim, now an adult, came forward after the jailing, said Charles Myatt, prosecuting, and revealed that Hines’ abuse of her began when she was a child.
A statement from the victim was read to the court by Mr.
Myatt.
She said: “I couldn’t confide in anyone.
My trust in people was destroyed.
“We are told as children that monsters are not real.
But my monster was real.” The convicted rapist, formerly of Church Road, Dallinghoo, near Woodbridge, had 10 years added to his existing sentence, of which he is likely to serve six years, with an additional two years spent on licence.
Judge Pugh stated he would likely be in jail until he was 90 before he is eligible for parole.
The court heard the woman endured six years of abuse as a child.
As an adult, she felt more comfortable around animals than people, as she believed they lack humans’ capacity for cruelty.
She also felt she could not wear white on her wedding day because Hines robbed her of her innocence.
Addressing Hines, the victim wrote: “Why did you feel you had the power to do that to me?
You are a monster.
I am a good person and stronger than he will ever be.”
