MICHAEL DUNCAN FROM TARLAND CONVICTED OF RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT IN ABERDEEN
In a case that has shocked the local community, Michael Duncan, a resident of Tarland, Aberdeenshire, has been found guilty of heinous crimes involving a 15-year-old girl.The incident took place at an address in Aberdeen in March 2014, where Duncan subjected the young girl to a terrifying and traumatic ordeal.
During the trial at the High Court in Edinburgh, it was revealed that Duncan not only raped the girl but also engaged in sexual assault, actions that caused significant distress and fear.
The victim, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, desperately pleaded for Duncan to cease his assault, but he continued to ignore her pleas, demonstrating a blatant disregard for her well-being.
The police investigation into Duncan’s actions was pivotal in bringing him to justice.
Authorities became aware of the crimes, which eventually led to his arrest and subsequent trial.
On July 31, Duncan was convicted of both sexual assault and rape after a jury found sufficient evidence to establish his guilt beyond reasonable doubt.
During the court proceedings, Duncan, who resides on Melgum Road in Tarland, maintained his innocence, denying all allegations.
Despite his denial, the jury’s verdict was clear, and the court accepted the evidence presented against him.
Following the conviction, the prosecution’s lawyer, Peter Ferguson QC, highlighted that Duncan had a prior conviction for a minor offence, which was noted during the proceedings.
The judge, Lord Uist, decided to defer sentencing to allow for the preparation of reports that would inform the final judgment.
Lord Uist stated, “You have been convicted of the sexual assault and rape of a 15-year-old girl.
Before I can pass sentence, I am obliged to obtain reports.” The sentencing has been scheduled for August 28 at the High Court in Dumbarton, where Duncan faces a potentially lengthy prison term for his crimes.
