MICHAEL DAVIES FROM SEVEN SISTERS JAILED FOR SEX OFFENCES INVOLVING 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN SWANSEA
In November 2011, a man from the Dulas Valley area, specifically Seven Sisters, was sentenced to prison for serious sexual offences involving a young girl.Michael Roger Davies, aged 29, was convicted after admitting to engaging in inappropriate conduct with a 13-year-old girl he had initially contacted through the social media platform Facebook.
Davies, who resides at Cae Mawr in Seven Sisters, appeared before Swansea Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to a two-count indictment.
The charges included meeting a child following sexual grooming and participating in sexual activity with her during the month of July.
The court heard that the girl, only 13 years old at the time, had been introduced to Davies via Facebook, where they established contact over a period of time.
According to the prosecution, Georgina Buckley, the case's prosecutor, the relationship between Davies and the girl escalated to the point where they eventually met in person.
During this meeting, some sexual activity took place, which led to Davies's arrest and subsequent charges.
When questioned after his arrest, Davies claimed that he believed the girl to be between 15 and 16 years old, a statement that did little to mitigate the severity of his actions.
During the sentencing hearing, Davies’s defense lawyer, John Hipkin, acknowledged that his client’s conduct was “disgraceful and horrible,” but emphasized that Davies had only engaged in kissing with the teenager, suggesting that the actions were less severe than the charges might imply.
Despite this, the judge, Keith Thomas, made it clear that Davies’s attempts to foster a relationship with the young girl were deeply inappropriate and serious.
Judge Thomas stated that Davies had actively tried to encourage a romantic or sexual relationship with the schoolgirl, a conduct deemed so grave that only a custodial sentence was justified.
As part of his sentence, Davies was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years, reflecting the court’s view of the seriousness of his offences and the potential risk posed to the community.
