On-Trent Rapist
In a recent development in the ongoing fight against child exploitation, Michael Davies, a 56-year-old man from Burton, has been sentenced to 16 months in prison after being found guilty of possessing indecent images of children. The case, which was heard at Stafford Crown Court, revealed disturbing details about Davies' deliberate and systematic search for and download of illegal material involving young girls.
According to court records, Davies, who initially used the alias George Davies, had accumulated over a dozen hours of illicit videos on his computer. These videos included 19 moving images classified as Category A, which is considered the most severe category of child exploitation material, along with six additional films categorized as B. The images depicted young girls aged between nine and twelve engaging in sexual acts with adults, with some footage involving even younger children. One particularly disturbing film showed a girl being raped, and there was also an image of a five-year-old child.
The police investigation uncovered that the illegal content was created between February 2013 and November 2015. During this period, Davies actively searched for and downloaded these images onto a memory card, which he later stored on his device. The police executed a search warrant at his residence in Stretton in November 2015, uncovering the extensive collection of illicit material. The investigation also revealed that Davies had been living at an address in Edale Way, Belper, after being forced to move out of his family home due to the charges.
Prosecutor Tim Harrington detailed that the total amount of material involved more than 16 hours of footage, with the most serious images being categorized as A. The court was informed that Davies, who is married with four children, had his employment suspended; he previously worked in security systems for the NHS. The court also heard that Davies had led a seemingly blameless life prior to these events, contributing to his community involvement and efforts to address his behavior.
During the sentencing, Recorder John Steel QC emphasized that Davies had engaged in 'deliberate and systematic' searches for these illegal images. Despite this, the judge acknowledged Davies' prior good character and the steps he had taken to address his actions. As part of his sentence, Davies will be registered on the sex offenders' register for ten years and will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order, which imposes strict restrictions on his future internet use.
In addition to his prison sentence, Davies was ordered to comply with the legal requirements designed to prevent further offenses. The court's decision reflects the seriousness with which such crimes are treated, especially given the disturbing nature of the material involved and the vulnerability of the victims depicted in the images.
