Cradley Heath Sexual Abuser
In October 2018, a man from Cradley Heath was sentenced to prison for a series of disturbing sexual offences committed across Birmingham's rail network and surrounding areas. Michael Cosco, aged 63 and residing on Halesowen Road in Cradley Heath, was found guilty of multiple charges related to inappropriate and sexual behavior towards women and a schoolgirl during a span of a few months earlier that year.

Cosco's criminal activities began to surface when he was linked to a series of incidents involving public indecency and sexual assault. The first known offence involved an 18-year-old woman on a train traveling from Birmingham to Sutton Coldfield on March 13. During this encounter, Cosco stood very close to her and deliberately rubbed his groin against her shoulder, an act that left the victim feeling deeply uncomfortable and violated. This incident marked the start of a troubling pattern of behaviour that would continue over the following weeks.

The very next day, on March 14, Cosco was involved in another disturbing incident at Aston Station. This time, he targeted a 13-year-old girl who was on her way home from school. He stood beside her and inappropriately touched her, causing significant distress. The victim’s father, who noticed Cosco's suspicious behavior the following day, promptly contacted the police. Law enforcement officers responded swiftly, attending the scene and arresting Cosco. His apprehension was a result of ongoing investigations into similar offences that had been reported earlier in February, which included a man touching himself inappropriately on a platform at Birmingham New Street and exposing himself on a train between Five Ways and New Street stations.

Further investigations linked Cosco to additional incidents, including an incident in April where he rubbed his groin against a woman on a tram in Wednesbury. These cumulative offences led to multiple charges being brought against him, including three counts of sexual assault, two counts of outraging public decency, and one count of indecent exposure.

During the legal proceedings, Cosco pleaded guilty to one of the sexual assault charges involving the 18-year-old woman. A trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court also resulted in a conviction for the sexual assault of the 13-year-old girl. The judge ordered the remaining charges to be recorded but not prosecuted further. On October 5, Cosco was sentenced to a total of two years and nine months in prison. Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender and was issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order to restrict his future conduct and protect the public from potential harm.

His sentencing marked the culmination of a case that highlighted the dangers posed by individuals committing sexual offences in public spaces, especially on the rail network and at stations across Birmingham and nearby areas.
