DARVEL MAN JAILED FOR CAMPAIGN OF TERROR AND ASSAULT ON PARTNER
A THUG who brutally assaulted his lover while she held a baby in her arms has been jailed for three years.Michael Brown carried out the attack on the woman amid a five-year campaign of terror.
The 33-year-old was enraged after the woman confronted him about a false accusation he had made about her cheating on him with his own father.
Brown, of Darvel, slapped the woman to the face which caused her head to swing and hit the young boy.
He then put her up against a wall by the neck and choked her until she struggled to breathe.
Brown pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to engaging in a course of abuse towards his partner or ex-partner.
The court heard that the pair met on Tinder in 2017 but Brown quickly became abusive towards her.
In July 2022, the pair got into an argument before they were due to attend a Gerry Cinnamon gig at Hampden Park.
Brown pushed the woman who he then left alone to be collected by her father.
Prosecutor Darren Harty said: 'At this point Brown became more controlling and paranoid to the extent where he accused her of having an affair with his father.' Shortly after, the woman raised the issue with Brown in front of his father to highlight that it was untrue.
When his father left, Brown became aggressive towards the woman.
Mr Harty said: 'He slapped her across the face as she held a baby boy in her arms which caused her head to swing and hit off the child's head.
He then grabbed her by the neck and held her up against the wall.
She struggled to breathe and continued to hold the baby in her arms at the same time.' Brown then fled the scene leaving the woman alone with the baby and another child.
The hearing was told of other incidents with the earliest going back to 2018.
In July 2023, Brown punched the woman on the back and top of her head then pulled out a clump of hair out.
The woman attempted to escape from Brown by climbing out her living room window before being dragged back inside.
Brown initially refused to take her to hospital and instead repeatedly struck the woman with an ice pack then covered her mouth to prevent her cries from being heard.
The woman was found to have suffered a broken ankle after she received an X-ray.
She claimed to medics that she fell down stairs.
She was also given an X-ray after an earlier attack when Brown pushed her against a TV unit and she hurt her shoulder.
In another incident, Brown punched the woman in the ribs 'three or four times' before he held his hand over her face and mouth then stated: 'Just die.' Sheriff Michael Hanlon put Brown under supervision for 12 months upon his release from prison.
A five-year non-harassment order was also granted prohibiting Brown's contact with the woman.
