MICHAEL BOWEN SENTENCED IN REDDITCH FOR SEX OFFENCES AGAINST GIRLS
In a case that has shocked the Redditch community, Michael Bowen, a 58-year-old man residing on Redstone Close, Church Hill, was sentenced to eight years in prison for serious sexual offences committed against young girls.The offences, which took place in the Woodrow area of Redditch during the 1980s, involved three victims who were known to Bowen at the time.
Bowen faced a total of ten charges, including indecent assault and gross indecency.
He denied all allegations initially, but after a thorough trial, he was found guilty of eight of those charges, specifically relating to two of the victims.
The court proceedings culminated on a Monday at Worcester Crown Court, where the judge handed down the lengthy sentence, reflecting the gravity of his crimes.
The victims, who were between the ages of nine and 15 at the time of the offences, endured a prolonged period of abuse that has left lasting scars.
Detective Constable Andy Baxter of West Mercia Police expressed his thoughts on the case, stating, “Bowen put these young girls through a terrible ordeal over a long period, which shattered their innocence and their trust in adults.” He further commended the bravery of the victims, acknowledging their courage in coming forward to relive the traumatic events from over three decades ago.
The victims have since moved away from Redditch and started new lives elsewhere, and the police hope that the verdict will aid their emotional recovery.
Detective Baxter also emphasized the importance of justice, saying, “We hope they can take comfort in the substantial sentence which has been imposed, knowing that Bowen has been punished for what he did to them, and that other children are protected from him.” The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding children and holding offenders accountable, regardless of how much time has passed since the offences occurred.
