MICHAEL BAILEY FROM WORLE SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC CHILD ABUSE AND THREATENING TO DUMP GIRL AT SEA
In September 2018, a disturbing case of child abuse came to light involving Michael Bailey, a 50-year-old man from Worle, North Somerset. Bailey was found guilty of inflicting severe cruelty upon a six-year-old girl, subjecting her to a series of terrifying and abusive acts that have left lasting scars.Bailey's heinous actions included physically assaulting the young girl and subjecting her to degrading treatment. One of the most shocking aspects of the abuse was when he attached a dog lead to her arm, threatening her with the words, "If you behave like a dog, I’ll treat you like a dog." This act was part of a broader pattern of intimidation and cruelty that Bailey inflicted upon the child.
Furthermore, Bailey made explicit threats to kill the girl, warning her that she would be wrapped in chains and taken out on a boat to be dumped at sea. These threats were not idle; they were delivered with a menacing tone that underscored the danger and fear the young girl experienced during the abuse.
During the court proceedings at Bristol Crown Court, Bailey denied any wrongdoing. However, the evidence presented was compelling enough to convict him on four charges of child cruelty and one charge of making a threat to kill. The court heard testimony about how Bailey would physically grab the girl’s arm and hair, often swiping her with a lead, further emphasizing the violent nature of his treatment.
One of the most disturbing pieces of evidence was a recorded telephone call Bailey made to the girl, in which he issued a series of threats. In this call, he told her, "I will f***ing come and find you and you will find out what a beating is about, do you understand, do you understand you stupid little f***ing b****." He continued with threats of violence and death, saying, "You will be wrapped in chains and taken out on a f***-ing boat, do you understand? Do you want to f***ing cross me… you’ll f***ing get it!" Bailey also boasted about his familiarity with the sea, claiming he knew where to dump her because he had worked on boats before.
Throughout the call, Bailey’s tone was menacing, and he warned the girl to stay away from him and everyone associated with him, threatening her with further violence if she disobeyed. The young girl, in her impact statement, expressed her feelings of anger, fear, and ongoing anxiety. She revealed that she remains terrified of Bailey and finds it difficult to trust others, haunted by her traumatic experiences.
The judge, James Patrick, sentenced Bailey to three years and four months in prison. He also ordered Bailey to have no contact whatsoever with the girl and prohibited him from working with children or vulnerable adults in the future. The court’s decision reflected the severity of Bailey’s actions and the need to protect others from potential harm.
Sarah Regan, representing Bailey, acknowledged that her client accepted the court’s verdict and the jury’s findings, though she did not contest the sentence. The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of child abuse and the importance of justice for victims who suffer in silence.
