October 2017 Man sentenced for non-recent sexual abuse Maurice Wall (76), of Burnham on Sea, Somerset appeared at Bristol Crown Court (yesterday 30th October) for sentencing having pleaded guilty to a series of sexual offences against a young child The prolonged abuse of his victim took place over a sustained period of time.

Ian Dixey, prosecuting, said Wall sexually abused the girl from the age of five.

He forced her to give him oral sex and perform sex acts on him as well as having sexual intercourse.

Mr Dixey read out a personal statement from Wall’s victim, who attended court for the sentencing.

She wrote: “I had nobody to turn to.

Who was going to believe a child?

“That’s what Maurice would always say.

“There was no Childline back then, I didn’t have close friends and I still don’t now.

“I used to scrub myself with bleach.

He used to wear Brut and, combined with his body sweat, it was horrid.

“I’ve had a sea of emotions.” Sentencing him, Recorder of Bristol, Judge Peter Blair QC said: “It has had long-lasting physiological effects upon your victim, for which you must have proper punishment.” Wall was sentenced to 15 years and 11 months and must register as a sex offender for life and is barred from working with children and vulnerable adults.

Senior Crown Prosecutor, CPS South West Kathryn Jones said: “This has been an extremely distressing case for the victim and I must commend the bravery shown.

I hope the sentence today brings some closure and now allows the victim to move forward.”
