MAN FROM BISHOPSTOKE HANDED SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR INFLICTING GBH WITHOUT INTENT
Matthew Saunders, a 37-year-old man living in Bishopstoke, was brought before the courts to face charges of Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) without intent.
The case was related to an altercation at a celebratory event in July last year.
During the incident, Saunders grabbed his female victim by the arm and pushed her against a wall, resulting in her suffering a broken hand and facial scars.
At Southampton Magistrates Court, Saunders received a sentence of 9 months imprisonment, which was suspended for two years.
Additionally, he was ordered to complete 120 hours of community service and was granted a 2-year restraining order.
Detective Constable Rob Drew commented on the case, emphasizing that no one should experience domestic or personal abuse in what should be a safe environment.
He praised the victim's bravery for coming forward, which led to the conviction, and assured that those who behave violently will be identified and stopped.
Authorities encourage victims to report abuse by calling 101 or online, and in emergencies, to dial 999.
