CALDERDALE MAN CAUSED SEVERE INJURIES TO BABY
Matthew Masterman, of Dodgeholme Court, Mixenden, near Halifax, pleaded guilty earlier this year at Bradford Crown Court to grievous bodily harm with intent. He caused injuries to a two-week-old baby, suffering fractures to his collarbone, ribs, and knee caused by “gripping” and “inappropriate handling”.
The baby also experienced haemorrhages due to shaking.
The injuries were life-threatening and non-accidental, involving the application of considerable force.
The court was told the baby suffered these injuries after being deliberately shaken and gripped by Masterman.
The baby began having fits and screaming later that night, but an ambulance was not called for around three hours.
Judge Peter Benson adjourned Masterman’s sentencing while a report is completed to assess the level of risk he poses to young children in the future.
