A man from Eastleigh, identified as Matthew John Cook, has been convicted and sentenced for a serious sexual assault that took place in Eastbourne. The incident, which occurred in October 2008, involved Cook visiting a friend’s residence in Eastbourne when he committed the assault against a woman inside her flat.

Cook, aged 35 and originally from Chandler’s Ford, was charged with two counts of rape following the incident. He maintained a stance of not guilty throughout the legal proceedings and faced trial at Lewes Crown Court on March 22. During the trial, the court found him not guilty of the first charge but convicted him of the second.

On Monday, April 27, Cook was sentenced to four and a half years in prison by Judge Guy Anthony at Lewes Crown Court.
