MATHEW HALLIDAY FROM WALLASEY ESCAPES JAIL AFTER HORRIFIC CHILD SEX ABUSE IMAGE COLLECTION IN LIVERPOOL

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Wallasey and the wider Liverpool area, Mathew Halliday, a 30-year-old man from Russell Road, Wallasey, was found to possess an extensive and heinous collection of child sexual abuse images and videos.

Despite the severity of his crimes, Halliday was handed a relatively lenient sentence by Liverpool Crown Court, sparking outrage among victims and advocates alike.

According to court reports, police executed a search warrant at Halliday’s residence in Gabriel Close, Moreton, on April 8 of the previous year.

The search was part of an investigation into his online activities, which revealed a shocking library of illegal content.

During the raid, officers seized multiple electronic devices, including a Samsung Galaxy phone, a Hewlett Packard laptop, and a hard drive.

These items contained a staggering number of illegal images and videos, with authorities uncovering 81 Category A files—the most serious classification—depicting the sexual abuse of very young children.

In addition to these, police found 86 files classified as Category B, along with an astonishing 281,318 files categorized as Category C.

These images included photographs and videos of children aged as young as two to three years old, as well as boys aged around ten.

The collection also contained nine extreme pornographic movies and images, some depicting bestiality and other forms of sexualized violence that are considered particularly heinous.

During police interviews, Halliday admitted to being part of a WhatsApp group that shared adult pornography, which he claimed was altered for comedic effect.

He also stated that he was aware of the illegal content but denied responsibility for all the files, suggesting that others might have used his devices.

When questioned again in November, Halliday expressed feelings of disgust and claimed he was 'physically sick' at the volume of images police had uncovered.

He insisted he believed only a small number of Category C images would be found and denied any knowledge of the origins of the files, despite evidence of internet searches on his phone that pointed to his involvement.

Further investigation revealed that Halliday’s phone was equipped with software enabling anonymous internet browsing, and he had installed a computer cleaning program, raising suspicions about his attempts to conceal his activities.

He later pleaded guilty to three counts of downloading indecent images of children and one count of possessing such images.

Additionally, he admitted to possessing extreme pornographic material.

Judge Woodhall, presiding over the case, described Halliday’s collection as a 'library of indecent images,' which included photographs of both male and female infants, as well as material involving animals.

The judge emphasized the disturbing nature of the images, stating, 'The images show very young children being subjected to penetrative sexual activity.

The extreme porn shows shocking and sexualized violence and bestiality.' While noting that Halliday claimed to have no clear recollection of his actions, the judge pointed out that Halliday maintained a partial denial of his deviant sexual interests.

Recognizing the potential danger to the public, Judge Woodhall decided that a custodial sentence was not necessary and instead opted for a community-based order.

Halliday was sentenced to 15 months in prison, suspended for two years, and was ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work.

He was also given a 30-day Rehabilitation Activity Requirement and mandated to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, along with complying with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

This case highlights the ongoing issues surrounding online child exploitation and the importance of vigilant law enforcement efforts to combat such heinous crimes, especially within communities like Wallasey and the broader Liverpool region.
