MARY LINDSAY FROM PERTH AND KINROSS ADDED TO SEX OFFENDERS REGISTER AFTER GROPING INCIDENT IN GLENROTHES
A 46-year-old woman named Mary Lindsay, residing on High Street in Newburgh, has been officially placed on the sex offenders register following her involvement in a sexual assault incident that took place in Fife. The incident occurred outside the Kingdom Centre in Glenrothes, a town within the Fife council area, and Lindsay admitted to the court that she had sexually assaulted a man during this event.
The incident was reported to have happened on the morning of July 5 last year.
According to court proceedings, Lindsay approached a man who was sitting on a bench near a betting shop around 7:25 am.
The man, who had arrived in the area by bus and was simply resting when the incident occurred, was subjected to an unwanted physical act.
Lindsay reached out and grabbed his right buttock, squeezing it briefly.
When the man turned around to confront her, he saw Lindsay casually greet him with a simple “hello” before walking away in the direction of the nearby bus station.
The victim described feeling intimidated and distressed by the encounter, prompting him to contact the police to report the assault.
Although the act was brief, lasting only a few seconds, it was deemed serious enough to warrant a charge of sexual assault against Lindsay.
During the court hearing at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, Lindsay pleaded guilty to the sexual assault charge.
However, she was found not guilty of a separate allegation that involved entering a man’s home uninvited, undressing, and making sexual advances towards him.
The court accepted her plea of not guilty on that particular charge.
In light of the case, the court decided to defer sentencing to allow for a social work assessment to be conducted.
Lindsay’s defence solicitor, Martin McGuire, requested that the court consider a period of supervision or a structured deferred sentence as part of her punishment.
Ultimately, Sheriff Paul Ralph sentenced Lindsay to six months of supervision and ordered her to be registered on the sex offenders register for the same period.
This measure aims to monitor her activities and ensure public safety in the Perth and Kinross area, which includes her hometown of Newburgh and the broader Fife region.
