HEATH AND REACH MAN MARTIN SHARRETT SENTENCED TO A DECADE FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF TWO MEN AND TEENAGE BOY

In a case that has shocked the local community of Heath and Reach, Martin Sharrett has been sentenced to ten years in prison for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed over a span of five years. The crimes took place at his residence, a garage located in Eaton Bray, where he repeatedly assaulted two young men in their twenties and a teenage boy, with the assaults occurring on separate occasions.

According to court records and victim testimonies, the teenage victim, who was between the ages of 13 and 16 at the time, was coerced into engaging in sexual activities with Sharrett. The young boy was manipulated and made to perform sexual acts in exchange for items such as tools or tobacco, highlighting the predatory nature of the abuse. The two adult victims, both in their twenties, also suffered sexual assaults at the hands of Sharrett during this period.

All three victims independently described the setting of the assaults as taking place inside an old bus that had been converted into a makeshift living space. This vehicle served as the scene of the crimes, with each victim providing detailed accounts of its layout and contents, which helped establish the context of the abuse.

Martin Sharrett, who resides on Linslade Road in Heath and Reach, was found guilty of a total of nine criminal charges. These included six counts of causing and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, as well as three counts of sexual assault. The severity of his crimes and the danger he posed to the community led to a maximum sentence being handed down by His Honour Judge Evans KC at Luton Crown Court on Monday, 12 June.

Sharrett received a sentence of ten years in prison, with an additional three years on license following his release. Furthermore, he will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order, which aims to restrict his future conduct and protect the public from potential reoffending. The judge described Sharrett as a ‘dangerous offender,’ emphasizing the gravity of his actions and the impact on his victims.

During the sentencing, His Honour Judge Evans KC also took the opportunity to commend the three victims for their bravery in coming forward and providing evidence that led to Sharrett’s conviction. The case underscores the importance of community vigilance and the courage of victims in seeking justice against those who abuse their trust.
