BANBRIDGE MAN MARTIN MCKNIGHT ESCAPES PRISON AFTER SEX OFFENCES AGAINST CHILD IN NEWRY

In a case that has drawn significant attention in the Banbridge community, Martin McKnight, a 62-year-old resident of Mount Charles in Banbridge, appeared before Newry Crown Court to face serious allegations involving sexual misconduct.

McKnight pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to sexual offences committed against a child, leading to a sentencing that, while severe, ultimately resulted in a suspended prison term. The court sentenced him to eleven months in prison, but this sentence was suspended for a period of three years, meaning he will not serve time unless he commits another offence within that timeframe.

The charges against McKnight included two counts of gross indecency towards a child, which are considered particularly grave offences involving inappropriate sexual conduct. Additionally, he was charged with indecent assault on a female, as well as two counts of indecent assault on a female child.
