NI MAN SENTENCED FOR POSSESSION OF INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN
A Belfast man, Mark William Armstrong, winner of a sentencing at Belfast Crown Court, was convicted for possessing indecent images of children.
He admitted to seven offences dating back to July 27, 2021, after his home was searched and 467 illegal images were confiscated, which included indecent images of children, prohibited images, and extreme pornographic content.
Despite making no reply after arrest, he pleaded guilty to possessing these images.
The Crown prosecutor indicated that although the offences were non-contact, Armstrong demonstrated a sexual interest in young children based on the images.
His defense cited a troubled childhood with domestic abuse and bullying, and the judge commented on the societal harm caused by such activities.
Armstrong was sentenced to a two-year probation order and will be on the sex offenders’ register for five years.
He also faces a seven-year Sexual Offences Prevention Order with strict conditions, and breaching it could lead to immediate imprisonment.
